168.36m admissions in 10 months
An annual record is in sight for French movie theatres, which have attracted 168.36m viewers during the first ten months of 2010 according to estimates from the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC). These results, boosted by an excellent October (18.54m admissions, + 17.7% compared to the same month in 2009), amount to an increase of 6.7% compared to the period January-October 2009.
As a reminder, last year closed with a record high of 200.9m admissions (i.e. €1.23bn in takings). The year 2010 is thus expected to exceed this level because figures for November and December have fluctuated these last two years between 36-43m admissions.
As for market shares, French films account for 34.7% of admissions for the period January 1-October 31, 2010 compared to 51% for US productions and 13.6% for features from other countries.
