Walter Salles’ Che starts lensing

The Motorcycle Diaries by Walter Salles, the last Film Four project that fell victim to the closure of Channel 4’s Film Unit, has finally started shooting in Argentina.
The Spanish-language film by the highly acclaimed Brazilian director of Central Station stars Gael Garcia Bernal (Y Tu Mama Tambien) as the young future political icon, Che Ernesto Guevara, and Rodrigo de la Serra (Same Love, Same Rain) as his friend, Alberto Granado.
Written by award-winning playwright, José Rivera, The Motorcycle Diaries is based on Guevara and Granada’s account of their epic 1952 motocycle journey across Latin America while they were young medical students.
Salles’ crew includes production designer, Carlos Conti, costume designers, Beatriz de Benedetto and Marisa Urruti, cinematographer, Eric Gautier and film editor, Daniel Renzende.
The Motorcycle Diaries is a Southfork Pictures Production in association with Tu va voir Production for Film Four, and executive-produced by , Film Four’s Paul Webster and Rebecca Yeldham who intially brought the project to Film Four.
The film is produced by Michael Novik (Quiz Show), Edgard Tenembaum (Late Marriage) and Karen Tenkhoff (The Legend of Bagger Vance), and co-produced by Diego Dubcovsky and Daniel Burman.
The project has already been pre-sold to a number of territories including Bim Distribuzione for Italy, Nippon Herald for Japan, Cinélibre/Cinéart for Benelux, Rosebud for Greece and Cyprus and Lusomundo for Portugal.
