OFF starts at Sarajevo

by

The Norwegian Film Fund and the Norwegian Foreign Ministry are involved in a new cultural project in ex-Yugoslavia. An ambulant film festival called OFF (On the Road Film Festival) will travel the Balkan countries for a whole month, beginning in Sarajevo on the 31 October and closing in Mostar on 23 November, passing through cities like Banja, Luka, Zagreb, Osijek and Beograd.
The main purpose of the festival is to increase the dialogue and understanding between the different regions in ex-Yugoslavia that suffered the consequences of the war the same way in spite of belonging to different ethnic groups. The festival’s program is based on short documentary and feature films made in Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia Herzegovina from 1994 with main emphasis on war and conflict.
Films such as the Oscar winning No Man’s Land by Danis Tanovic , The Perfect Circle by Ademir Kenovic or Cabaret Balkan by Goran Paskaljevic will be shown during the festival and are clear samples of how the war has influenced the film environment in the Balkan countries now again on the rise after a period of horror and destruction.
