Portugal's immortal passion
- Luxembourg's Prime Minister and the President of the Portuguese Republic visit the set of Os Immortais, starring Emmanuelle Seigner. It's the latest in a long list of co-productions
During a visit to the set of Portuguese director, Antonio Pedro Vasconcelos’ latest film, Os Immortais (The Immortals), Jean-Claude Juncker and Jorge Sampaio, respectively the prime minister of Luxembourg and the president of the Repbublic of Portugal, paid tribute to the « fruitful cooperation » between their two countries in the audiovisual sector.
Co-produced by Luxembourg’s Samsa Film, Portugal’s Fado Filmes, Animatografo 2 and the United Kingdom’s Dan Film, The Immortals received funding from the Luxembourg Support Fund for film and audiovisual production that aids production by means of selective financing and audiovisual investment certificates. Luxembourg contributed 22 per cent of the budget as well as fifteen technicians.
Based on the novel by Carlos Matos Gomes, The Immortals is about the difficulties encountered by a former Portuguese military commander in Angola on his return to civvie street. The film stars Emmanuelle Seigner, Joaquim de Almeida and Luxembourg’s André Jung.
Previous co-productions between the two countries include Black Dju (1995), Elles (1997) and Jaime (1999) and the Luxembourg minister spoke warmly of Portugal as « a first-choice partner for our filmmakers »
