Gebürtig is selected
The Union of Audiovisual and Film Industrie select Gebürtig by Lukas Stepanik for the best foreign film category.
Gebürtig is a story of a Jewish immigrant who returns to his hometown where he must come to terms with the fact that his late father was an SS doctor. The message behind this film is the variety in ways in which people try to come to terms with their past. The protagonists are: a Jewish comedian whose parents were murdered in the camps, the son of the Nazi medic and mass murderer who is haunted by visions of his late father, and the daughter of a resistance fighter who died during a fight with the commandant of a concentration camp. Gebürtig will also open the Saarbruecken Film Festival in Germany for the Max-Ophuls-Award 2003.
