Marco Bellocchio´s latest film takes us on an inner journey into the soul of Ernesto Picciafoco, an atheist painter whose family decides to candidate their late mother for sainthood. Picciafoco never had an easy relationship with the woman who bore him and has no intention of underwriting the family´s initiative. Ernesto is separated from his wife Irene, who bore him a son called Leonardo. Ernesto must deal with Leonardo´s desire to attend religion lessons at school so as not to feel like an outsider. This is powerful film explores religion, atheism and the intellect.
