The Treasure in Athens

by

A special event will take place at Athens Concert Hall on 7 November 2002 that will offer a rare opportunity for fans of classic European cinema to discover a rarely-seen European film; The Treasure (Der Schatz -1923). This was the first silent film made by the architect of modern cinema, Georg Wilhelm Pabst. The screening will be accompanied by a live rendition, by the Camerata - Friends of Music Orchestra, of Max Deutsch's original score for the film. Pabst is best remembered for the films he made with Louise Brooks, including Pandora’s Box and Diary of a Lost Girl.
The Treasure was premiered in Dresden on February 26, 1923. After the end of the silent cinema era the film was never screened again until 2000 when a print, as well as Max Deutsch’s original score, were found in the archive of the Frankfurt Film Museum.
