FILMS France

Together for Haneke

by

- Austrian director examines the "hidden" and unsavoury repercussions of the Algerian War of the early 60s in Caché starring Daniel Auteuil and Juliette Binoche

Juliette Binoche and Daniel Auteuil are Austrian director Michael Haneke’s surprising choice as the protagonists of his next film project, entitled Caché (Hidden).
This will be the second time these two French actors have worked together, the first being Patrice Leconte’s La Veuve de Saint-Pierre. In Caché (Hidden), Binoche and Auteuil play an ordinary Parisian couple whose lives are turned upside down when they receive some video cassettes through the post from an anonymous sender. As a result, the husband’s darkest secrets about his activities during the Algerian conflict are revealed. This is Daniel Auteuil’s first experience of Michael Haneke’s upfront filmmaking style while Juliette Binoche worked with the Austrian director on Code inconnu.
Produced by Les Films Alain Sarde and Les Films du Losange, Caché is scheduled to go into production in the summer of 2003 and will be distributed by Mars Distribution.
Michael Haneke’s latest film, Le Temps des Loups (currently in post-production) and starring Isabelle Huppert, Béatrice Dalle, Benoît Magimel and Patrice Chéreau, is due for release in France in the near future.
