The event is funded for the most part by the Municipality of Paris and is renowned for the attention it gives to films of artistic quality, many of which are looking for a French distributor, while leaving the decision about which film will win the competition Grand Prix to the audience.
The list of European films selected for this year’s event includes Lucas Belvaux’s trilogy: Cavale, Un couple épatant, Après la vie - starring Ornella Muti, Dominique Blanc and Catherine Frot, as well as Raymond Depardon’s L’homme sans Occident, Agnès Varda’s Deux ans après and Vylet (Cendres et cachotteries) by Czech director Alice Nellis.
The Paris Meetings also feature a number of workshops that are open to members of the public, and given by filmmakers like Alain Corneau and Olivier Assayas on the subject of film adaptation; Nicole Garcia and Bruno Nuytten on “Why become a director?” and Nicholas Philibert on documentary making.
The Meetings are organised by Marie-Pierre Marcia who has invited a good number of special guests from all over the world, including Italian director Roberta Torre.
