Sweet Sixteen by British director Ken Loach won the Golden Ear of Wheat at the 47th edition of the International Cinema Week - Seminci in Valladolid, Spain. Xingfu Shiguang (Happy Times) won the Silver Ear of Corn award, the Fipresci and the Young Cinema awards too.
Uniquely, El ultime tren a Uruguayan film by Diego Arsuaga managed to win both critical and public acclaim, as well as a standing ovation, The three stars of the film, Hector Alteiro, Federico Luppi and Pepe Soriano shared the best actor award and the Valladolid jury also Arsuaga with the Pilar Mirò award.
Fernando Lara, the artistic director of Seminci, said that in light of last year’s victory by Campanella’s El hijo de la novia followed by that of Arsuaga, Latin American films were « enjoying popularity all over and not only in Spain ».
