- Rome will become the focus of European Cinema from 5-7 December 2002 when it hosts the third EFA Awards, presented by Mel Smith and Asia Argento
Rome will be at the centre of the European film industry from 5 to 8 December when some 1500 filmmakers from Europe and beyond will gather for the presentation of the 2002 European Film Awards. The European Film Academy announced the principal candidates today and the winners will be announced during a gala event at Rome Opera House on 7 December.
The awards are the highlight of a wide-ranging series of events that will run for the whole weekend. The awards ceremony will be aired in Italy live on Rai 2, as well as in Great Britain and the rest of Europe, the United States, Canada, Latin America, Australia and South Africa.
Like the previous two editions in London and Berlin, this year’s host will again be English actor and director, Mel Smith, this time accompanied by Italian actress, director and producer, Asia Argento. The audience will include a veritable galaxy of European and international stars who will receive and present the awards.
