The US giant Universal has bought the rights to the Swedish thriller ‘Saknad’ (Missing) scheduled to be filmed in Stockholm at the beginning of next year.
It will be the writer of the novel herself Karin Alvegen who will be preparing the film script. Negotiations are going on at this moment with two Swedish production companies. "What we can offer is money and a world wide organisation and in exchange we get the distribution rights of the film" said Tomas Crutze director of Universal in Sweden in an interview to the Swedish daily "Dagens Nyheder", expressing this way an increasing trend within the Scandinavian film industry to get big US companies supporting their film production financially in return for distribution rights. In the last few years The Buena Vista production company has co-produced three Scandinavian film with local film production companies as well as Columbia, co-producer along with Nordisk Film of the box office hit Elling which American version is already being planned by Kevin Spacey.
