A new number two for Vivendi?
According to the Los Angeles Time, Barry Diller, director of Vivendi Universal Entertainment, may given the responsibility of all Vivendi Universal activities in the U.S.A.. thus becoming the number two man within the group.
These changes in the group’s organization, which have not yet been confirmed, may the result of an initiative by VU President, Jean-René Fourtou, in the hopes of reassuring investors and smoothing out relationships with American management.
Barry Diller, ex-patron of Fox and Paramount, joined VU when USA Networks was bought in December of 2001. In this way, Diller stands to become co-president, alongside Jean-René Fourtou, of an entirely new structure that will absorb all of VU’s American activities, including the Entertainment Division (cinema, television, amusement parks), as well as other sectors, especially Music and Video Games. Over time, this new structure may develop into a new VU subsidiary with its own stock market listing, or may eventually be sold off.
