Moodysson strikes against the US
Swedish director Lukas Moodysson is willing to sacrifice (a possible) Oscar. In an interview with Swedish daily newspaper, “Expressen”, iconic filmmaker Moodysson said he will not be going to the US even if his latest film, Lilja 4-Ever is nominated for this year’s best foreign film Oscar. The reason for his decision is an article he read about a group of 17-year-old Swedish students living outside Salt Lake City who were taken into custody by the FBI and will be expelled from the US because of a film they made in which they appear as terrorists pointing weapons at the American flag. "We can be sure that this kind of force exists in the US," explained Moodysson, who added that although he finds America an exciting place, the country also frightens him to the degree that he is determined not to travel there even if his film is nominated by the Academy on 11 February.
