FESTIVALS Denmark

Two Dane.docs at Sundance

by

Although the Danish contingent at the International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) - in Amsterdam from 21 November to 1 December – must wait until Friday 29 November before learning whether they have won any awards, one piece of excellent news has already come their way. Yesterday, 26 November, they were informed that two documentaries were selected for competition at the Sundance Festival (16-26 January 2003). The lucky pair are Nye scener fra Amerika (New Scenes From America) by Jorgen Leth and De Lutrede (The Putrified) by Jesper Jargil about the four Dogma brothers.
“It is a great honour to have a film selected for competition at the Sundance, a festival that has brought great recognition to so many films, as well as a chance to get the films released onto the American market,” said Leth in an interview with Danish daily newspaper “Politiken”. Leth is currently putting the finishing touches to his next film project, De Fem Benspaend together with Lars von Trier, while just last week Jargil won the Danish Film Institute’s best documentary prize and DKR 25,000.
