“Stones” in Athens

After its impressive reception at the 43rd Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Piedras (Stones) by Ramon Salazar, winner of the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlinale and Best Film at the Bogota Film Festival, is about to be released in Greece.
Piedras is Spaniard Ramon Salazar’s directorial debut and this film is vaguely reminiscent of Robert Altman’s singular filmmaking style.
The protagonists of Piedras are a high society matron who’s also into kleptomania, a Madame and her handicapped daughter, a drug-addicted dancer and a woman taxi driver and the backdrop is urban Madrid. Piedras is the story of five very different women and their respective approach to life, love, men and especially their neuroses.
