- Director of Bollywood Hollywood makes Anglo-Canadian co-production about love in a cold, cold climate

The UK/Canadian co-production The Republic Of Love by Indian director Deepa Mehta has started shooting in and around Toronto in Canada.
The screen adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Carol Shields stars Bruce Greenwood (Ararat, 13 Days), and Emilia Fox (The Pianist). Set in the coldest of winters, it is a love story between two opposite characters whose relationship is anything but smooth.
Mehta, who directed the hit Bollywood Hollywood said, “The Republic of Love will walk the line between the lightness of being and the emotional anxiety associated with love... I want to have fun doing the film and making it into a film that’s fun to watch.”
The Republic Of Love is produced by Ann Stratton of Tryptic Media (The Hanging Garden) in the UK, and Julie Baines (The Cat’s Meow) and was supported by the UK national Lottery franchise, The Film Consortium and the Film Council, Telefilm Canada and the Canadian Television Fund. The Rebublic of Love will be released theatrically by Helkon SK in the UK and by Seville Pictures in Canada, with The Works handling international sales.
