PRODUCTION UK

More Spice in Archlight

by

Brighton based production company The Spice Factory, one of the most active production houses in the UK, has taken an equity stake in Australian international sales outfit Archlight Films.
The Spice Factory, run by producers Michael Cowan and Jason Piette, already had a first-look deal with Archlight, launched in Cannes this year by former Beyond Film executive Gary Hamilton and Victor Syrmis.
Spice Factory made nine feature films in 2002, many funded by UK tax breaks, such as An Angel For May with Tom Wilkinson, sold by Portman Film & TV, Plots With a View with Christopher Walken and Brenda Blethyn, sold by Vine International Pictures to Miramax, and the action film Steal with Stephen Dorff, sold by TF1 International.
The Spice Factory films handled by Archlight Films include Married-Unmarried, a drama with Paolo Seganti and Ben Daniels, and Bollywood Queen, a hit with international distributors since it premiered at Cannes this year. Helkon Sk bought the UK distribution rights to this film which is scheduled for screening in the World Cinema Section at the next Sundance Film Festival.
