Record funding for cinema

- The MEDIA Programme injected in 2002 over Euros2 millions into the Irish film and TV industries

Over Euros2m have been injected into the Irish film and TV industries by the MEDIA Programme in 2002. A record which according to MEDIA Desk Ireland’s chief executive Siobhan O’Donoghue “underpins the key role of European MEDIA funding for the Irish Film and Television sector”.
14 Irish film and TV entities were awarded Euros1.07m in development financing of which 10 also received slate funding support for their development activities: Element Films, Fastnet Films, Octagon Film Production, Tyrone Productions, Banjax Ltd, Crossing the Line, Frontier Films, Paradox Pictures Telegael Teo and Brown Bag Films.
“The support from the MEDIA Programme is a vital component in the development funding that Element requires to enable it to develop a slate of projects with real commercial potential”, said Element Films’ Andrew Lowe whose company also received slate funding backing from the Irish Film Board’s new Company Development Initiative.
Eight Irish TV companies also benefited from the EU Television Broadcasting support scheme this year: Ferndale Films, Planet Rock, Brown Bag Films, Crossing The Line Films, Concordia, Tile Films, Terraglyph and Little Bird.
