ATTENDANCE Denmark

Record year for cinema

by

2002 will go down in the history books as a record year for Danish films. In its annual report on attendance, the Danish Film Institute shows that up to and including 16 December, around 3.3 million tickets were sold for domestic productions and the forecast is that this number will rise to 3.6 million by year's end once an eagerly awaited children's film, Bertram & Co is released in time for the festivities.
The report also shows that Danish films took a 28 per cent quota of the home market, and that 8 Danish films each attracted some 200,000 filmgoers. During 2002, ticket sales rose by over a million compared to 2001, and that is without taking into account the impact that the imminent release of the second part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy will have on attendance figures.
