- New 3-year mandate for “Maitre d'" who’ll bring Kusturica, Bertolucci & von Trier to the Croisette in 2003

Gilles Jacob has been reconfirmed as President of the Cannes Film Festival for another three years. Jacob, who served as the festival’s artistic director from 1978 until 2000, when he was appointed president of France’s premiere film event. The 28-member festival board renewed Jacob’s mandate and so the “Master of Cerimonies” will head up the 56th edition, scheduled for 14-25 May 2003.
It may be months away, but the planning has been underway for some considerable time and a number of world famous filmmakers have promised to attend. They include Emir Kusturica (Hungry Hearts) , Lars von Trier (Dogville), Michael Haneke (Le temps des loups), James Ivory (Le divorce), Claude Miller (La petite Lili) and Bernardo Bertolucci (The Dreamers).
That is just about all that is known since the organisers of Cannes 2003, Jacob's deputies Thierry Fremaux and Véronique Cayla, have joined their president in extending a veil of secrecy over the festival.
