Greece and Denmark fight piracy

by

- Thirteen member states ignore the 22 December deadline and fail to ratify this important weapon against piracy

Only 2 of the fifteen European Union member states, Greece and Denmark, met the 22 December deadline for the ratification of the Copyright Directive and integrating it into their national legislation. The directive was set down by the EU in order to protect the copyright of film, music and computer software technology and it is now illegal for anyone in Greece or Denmark to download or exploit in any way digital content products be they films, music or any other product of this kind. EU Commission spokesman, Jonathan Todd said he was “disappointed” with the widespread failure to implement this important weapon against piracy and added that the Commission would deal with the negligent member states officially in the New Year.
