NFT screens all of Bergman

by

The National Film Theatre in London is offering fans of the great Swedish master filmmaker, Ingmar Bergman, a unique chance to see his entire body of work in a retrospective scheduled to run from 1 January to 28 February, 2003.
The Bergmanesque season includes his romantic tales of teenage love like Summer Interlude and Summer With Monica), darker stories such as The Seventh Seal and The Virgin Spring) and comedies like Smiles of a Summer Night and A Lesson in Love). Also featured are two extended runs of Wild Strawberries and Persona.
To give visitors a full picture and understanding of Bergman’s style, inspiration and obsessions, the NFT will also screen films based on scripts written by Bergman but directed by great Scandinavian filmmakers like Bille August and his 1992 Palme d’Or-winning, The Best Intentions and Liv Ullmann’s Private Confessions and Faithless.
. This is a fantastic opportunity to discover (or re-discover) the film legacy of one of the world cinema’s living legends, just as the 85-year-old director is making his last “come-back” with a feature entitled Saraband, loosely based on the TV series, Scenes From a Marriage.
