- The Works announces that Mackkinnon's Pure and Winterbottom's In this world have been selected for Berlinale
Gillies Mackkinnon’s new film, Pure, starring Molly Parker and David Wenham, has been selected for this year’s Panorama section at the Berlin International Film Festival, which will take place from 6-16 February.
Set in the East End of London, it is the story of 10-year-old Paul who becomes the caretaker of his family and is determined to save his mother from self-destruction.
Sales Agent The Works has already sold the film to a handful of small territories including Iceland, Hong Kong, Korea and Hungary, and is currently closing a deal with the UK.
According to The Works’ Head of International Sales, Joy Wong, Michael Winterbottom’s In This World (formerly known as M1187511) has also been selected for a key section at the Berlinale, although Wong was unable to reveal precisely which one prior to the festival’s official announcement.
The Works’ other major title, Whale Rider, which won the People’s Choice Award at the last Toronto Film Festival, was selected for Sundance (16-26 January 2003) where the independent distributor Newmarket Films will supervise the local release.
The Works’ line-up includes Stephen Fry’s directorial debut, Bright Young Things which will be ready in September 2003, and Vincent Ward’s River Queen which is still in pre-production.
