UIP's new exec

United International Pictures (UIP) has appointed Irish-born Nuala O’Halloran as their new director of international acquisitions. She replaces Marion Pilowsky who left the company to head up international production at US company Myriad Pictures’ new London outfit.
Nuala O’Halloran spent six years in Australia working for the Discovery Channel and pay-TV Premium Movie Partnership. Her new job will entail supervising the acquisition of local films by UIP’s worldwide network of national branches to complement Universal and Paramount products released internationally by UIP.
In the UK, Universal is backing the country’s most successful production company, Working Title who have two major projects in the works. The first, Love Actually, directed by Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral and once again starring Hugh Grant just wrapped while a live-action feature based on the cult TV series, “Thunderbirds”, is scheduled to go into production in March, directed by Jonathan Frakes.
