Gothenburg readies for Festival
The 26th edition of the Gothenburg International Film Festival (25 January – 3 February) will open with the screening of Josef Fares’ new film, Kopps and the programme includes a retrospective dedicated to French director Robert Guédiguian’s entire body of work (11 features) and the presentation of a new book about him.
This year 8 new Nordic films are competing for the SKR200,000 Filmraven award for best feature and three Nordic short films will compete in short film category.
This year Festival has two controversial directors on the guest list this year. The American director Michael Moore will be competing with his two hour long documentary Bowling for Columbine who caused a great impact during the Cannes festival and is considered by many as one of the best documentaries ever made. Along with Moore, his Palestinian colleague Elia Suleiman will compete with his Cannes winning Divine Intervention Divine written, directed and interpreted by Suleiman himself treating Palestinian life under the Israeli occupation. The film got accepted by the Oscar Academy to compete in the category of best foreign film, but stating that the Academy does not accept Palestine as a nation.
