The directorial feature debut of Iceland’s Dagur Kari Petursson, Nói Albinói (Noi the albino) is the only Nordic film in competition at the forthcoming Rotterdam Film Festival, scheduled to run from 22 January to 2 February.
Produced by Zik Zak Filmworks, and co-produced by Germany (The Co-production Office), Denmark (M & M Productions) and UK (The Bureau), supported by the Icelandic Film Fund it is the story of a 17-year-old albino who lives with his grandmother in a small Icelandic village and is variously considered to be a genius or an idiot. The boy dreams of running away with his girlfriend and achieves his ambition after an avalanche destroys his village.
Petursson trained at the Danish Film School and has made a number of short films and music videos and her thesis film, Lost Weekend was seen at 11 international festivals, winning numerous awards and special mentions.
