Iceland’s Nina Dögg Filippusdóttir, Finland’s Minna Haapkylä, Denmark’s Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Sweden’s Torkel Petersoon are some of this year’s Scandinavian "Shooting Stars". They will join other young and talented European actors and actresses at the sixth edition of this prestigious sidebar event that is organised by European Film Promotion during the Berlin Film Festival.
Nina Dögg Filippusdóttir began her career in 2000 in Ragnar Bragason’s Dramarama although she only came to the forefront of public attention after starring in Iceland’s most popular film of last year, Baltasar Kormàkur’s The Sea. Finn Minna Haapkylä was voted best supporting actress by the national film Academy for her debut performance in Veikko Aaltonen’s Kiss Me In The Rain. She subsequently starred in Lovers and Leavers by Aku Louhimies.
The two actors of this quartet, Dane Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Swede Torkel Petersson are popular with their respective home audiences. Kaas became famous after appearing in Soren Kragh-Jacobsen’s Drengene Fra Sankt Petri - he also won two awards. He also won the best supporting actor award in 1999 for Lars von Trier’s Idiots.
Audiences will have seen Petersson in Lasse Spang Olsen’s Old Men In New Cars and in Josef Fares’ Jalla ! Jalla ! and Kopps.
