The 16th edition of FIPA, the International Audiovisual Programme Festival is scheduled to take place in Biarritz, France from 21-26 January 2003.
The event was set up to promote the world’s best TV audiovisual programmes and this year’s edition will feature 117 new programmes in six distinct competitive categories for drama, series and mini-series, documentaries, investigative journalism, music and entertainment, and short programmes.
Europe is sending a strong contingent especially in the TV drama field – with submissions from Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, France and the Czech Republic- and TV series and mini-films from Spain, Italy, Sweden, Finland and Norway.
FIPA has a well-deserved reputation for the excellence of its infrastructure, that is much appreciated by industry operators. The event also includes numerous meetings and sidebar events like the Meeting when French film directors Chantal Akerman, Claire Simon and Agnès Varda will talk about How to make a documentary.
15 young filmmakers from as many EU member-states will choose the winning film in the “Major Investigations and Social Issues” category. The winning film will be bought and subsequently broadcast by French-language channel, TV5. Franco-German TV channel, ARTE is organising a debate on the subject of diversity for 23 January.
