FUNDING Ireland

Less cash for TV

- More films, less TV. The Irish Film Board's budget is cut by 12.5% and cash flow for TV series dries up

The Irish Film Board Irish Film Board (IFB) just announced it would no longer be funding multi-part television series due to a 12.5 per cent cut in their budget for 2003. The IFB also intends focusing on its core mandate which is support feature films.
“With the successful launch of the low budget initiative coupled with increasing pressure on our budget, it is necessary to focus our support on our core activities,” explained the IFB’s CEO Rod Stoneman. “We therefore will not be funding television series, but will maintain our collaboration and partnership with the broadcasting sector through feature films, documentaries, animation, single dramas and our various short film schemes”.
In 2001, the IFB assigned a total of Euros2.8m to Irish feature films and major TV dramas, Euros1m for independent TV productions and Euros500,000 for animation.
