Cinéfondation beefed up

by

Cinéfondation is increasing the number of its staff. On 27 January, the former head of the cinema section of Franco-German TV channel ARTE, Georges Goldenstern officially joined the group in the “Villa Medici of Cinema” in Paris.
Cinéfondation was set up in 1998 by Gilles Jacob, the president of the Cannes Film Festival. Twice-a-year it selects 6 young directors from all over the world and aged between 25 and 35, and helps them write a screenplay and find a producer for their first or second feature-length film.
The lucky six spend four and a half months at the Cinéfondation, during which time they work closely with producers, directors, technical staff and representatives of important film industry institutions. Last year’s “residents” were from England, Poland, Russia, Greece, Germany, the Ukraine, and Sweden. All share the same goal: to emulate the success of past Cinéfondation graduates like Argentina’s Diego Lerman and Tagikistan’s Djamshed Usmonov, whose respective directorial feature debuts, Tan de repente and The Angel On The Right are scheduled to be released in French cinemas on 29 January and 26 February.
The Cinéfondation is a regular at the Cannes Film Festival where it presents around fifteen short and medium-length films by students of film schools from all over the world in the official selection.
George Goldenstern joins a dedicated team that is headed by Pierre Viot and directed by Sylvie Perras. Martin Scorsese and Abbas Kiarostami are the Cinéfondation’s honorary presidents.
