Winterbottom wins Lottery

- Film Council decides to invest over Euros2millions. Code 46, with Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton, will be made

The Film Council’s Premiere Fund has injected a much needed £1.565,063 (circa Euros2.348m) of Lottery money into Michael Winterbottom’s Code 46. This follows last November’s decision by Pathe Pictures to pull out of the project after a dispute between Pathe executives François Ivernel and Cameron McCracken, and Code 46’s production company, Revolution Films, headed by Andrew Eaton and Winterbottom.
BBC Films’ also contributed to this film, that is also co-financed by United Artists and has been in production for the last eight weeks on location in Shanghai, Dubai, India and London. The futuristic love story stars Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton and is the fifth film directed by Winterbottom and written by Frank Cottrell Boyce. Their most recent collaborations were 24-Hour Party People [+see also:

and The Claim - also supported by Lottery money. The Works, the sales arm of Lottery franchise The Film Consortium will handle the international sales of Code 46 (after Pathe International stepped down). The Works are also selling Winterbottom’s In This World that will compete for a Golden Bear at this year’s Berlinale.
