BOX OFFICE France

Record guaranteed for 2010 admissions

by

Despite last month’s slowdown at 19.3m admissions, i.e. 8% fewer than the previous year, French box office figures are heading for an outstanding 2010 total. 187.63m admissions were recorded during the first 11 months of 2010 (+5% compared to the same period in 2009), according to estimates from the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC).

The best total of the last 40 years (201.93m admissions in 1982) is therefore already in the bag given that audience figures in December have fluctuated between 17-22m admissions during the last decade. The final score for 2010 should thus be between 205 and 210 million admissions.

As for market share, French films saw an increase in November and represent 36.4% of admissions recorded during the first 11 months of 2010, compared to 47.6% for US productions and 16% for features from the rest of the world.
