After his acclaimed behind-the-camera debut The Easy Way [+see also:

film profile] (380,000 admissions in France in 2008), actor Jean-Paul Rouve will direct his second feature, Quand Je Serai Petit (“When I’m Small”), next spring.

For the script, Rouve has teamed up again with his co-screenwriter on The Easy Way: Benoît Graffin (who also penned Pierre Salvadori’s Priceless [+see also:

film profile], and Anne Fontaine’s The Girl from Monaco [+see also:

film profile], among other films).

Quand Je Serai Petit centres on 40-year-old Mathias, who is married to Clémence and has a little girl. Treating his wife to a surprise weekend away in Venice, on the train he comes across a little boy on a holiday camp from northern France who reminds him uncannily of himself when he was small.

Feeling deeply moved, Mathias investigates. To his amazement, he discovers that the young boy’s mother bears an uncanny resemblance to his own, has the same first name and is 30 years younger. We also learn that Mathias’s father died when he was in the second year of secondary school and was the same age as the little boy on the train. But today, the little boy still has his father… Can destiny be changed?

Produced by Pauline Duhault for Elia Films, Quand Je Serai Petit is expected to shoot for about five weeks in April-May in the Nord-Pas de Calais region. The cast and partners will be revealed at a later date.

Rouve also continues his busy acting career. Having won acclaim this year in The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec [+see also:

film profile], he will hit screens on January 12, 2011 in Gerald Hustache-Mathieu’s Nobody Else But You (Diaphana Distribution), on March 16 in Pierre Lacan’s Légitime Défense (distributed by Haut et Court) and on May 4 in Maurice Barthélemy’s Low Cost (Wild Bunch Distribution).
