Rapace’s nominations, prizes pile up in the US

Swedish star actress Noomi Rapace is a hot ticket in Hollywood, amassing critics awards and nominations in the US for her role as tattooed hacker Lisbeth Salander in the Millennium trilogy. Among the latest honours is Breakthrough Performance from New York Film Critics Online.

Søren Stærmose – producer of the Swedish Millennium blockbuster and co-producer of the US remake currently filming in Sweden – told Cineuropa: “It’s amazing, but [Noomi] fully deserves it. She’s like a ticking bomb who prepares and fights…against lobotomized men who hate women. Let’s face it – women are more clever than men!”

Rapace is also nominated for Best Actress at the Critics Choice Movie Awards, which will be held at the Hollywood Palladium on January 14. She missed out on the Golden Globe nominations because the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [+see also:

wasn’t eligible for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards, according to The Hollywood Reporter, since it was released in Europe in 2009. Rapace still has a chance to be nominated for the Oscars.

Meanwhile, the Swedish actress has a busy schedule on both sides of the Atlantic. She is currently filming Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes 2 in the UK and plans to act alongside her former husband Ola Rapace in the Swedish film Bo & Anita.

by Pernilla August, opened very strongly in Sweden last Friday, to take second place at the box office. She will next appear in the Norwegian thriller Babycall by Pål Sletaune, set to open in Norway in March 2011.
