Tax credit on for 6 months, no word on ticket hike yet

by

With the so-called Milleproroghe ("Thousand extensions") decree law, the government extended tax benefits – the tax credit and tax shelter – to film companies for only six months. In a press release, ANICA has expressed its disappointment over the lack of renewal of a three-year measure "that was crucial for the great success that Italian cinema is enjoying and the abolishment of which would mark its end”.

Minister of the Economy Giulio Tremonti denied rumours that the Milleproroghe decree law will include a "special contribution" of €1 on admission tickets to movie theatres. The contribution, which appeared in the draft of the law, would have served to finance the extension of the tax breaks for the film sector through 2013.
