and The Edge. Bier’s drama, produced by Zentropa Entertainment, will soon be released in the US by Sony Classics.

Only twice before has a Danish film won the prestigious Golden Globes: Carl Theodor Dreyer’s The Word in 1956 and Bille August’s Pelle the Conqueror in 1988. The Golden Globes are often an indication of how members of the Academy will cast their Oscar vote. In a Better World is Denmark’s entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the nominations for which be announced on January 25.

The Critics’ Choice Awards is given out annually by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, which comprises some 250 TV, radio and web film critics from North America. Last Friday, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo beat out Biutiful and I Am Love. Produced by Sweden’s Yellow Bird, the first Millennium film has garnered 10 million admissions worldwide, and around 600,000 in the US alone.
