Kino Polska TV on top form

2010 was definitely one of the best years for Kino Polska TV. The specialist Polish movie channel belonging to the SPI International Polska group outstripped its competitors (German channel KinoVelt TV and the UK’s Star Gold) last November and received the Hot Bird TV Award, one of the most coveted media prizes, thus repeating its 2006 victory in the same Cinema category.

Kino Polska TV’s publishing arm – which was set up in 2008 and offers DVDs of films by Polish masters, hit titles and the series Awangarda/Off – was also given an award in May 2010 by the Polish Film Institute in the Polish Film Distribution category.

On the production side, 2010 also brought success for the network with Katarzyna Klimkiewicz’s short film Hanoi-Warsaw, which picked up numerous gongs including Best Film at Tallinn and the Special Jury Prize (as well as a Special Mention for actress Thu Ha Mai) in the Young Cinema Competition at Gdynia.

Kino Polska TV – whose audience figures rose by 57% from January to November 2010 compared to the same period in 2009 – also continues to invest in the Internet sector. In June 2010, the network thus became the main shareholder in Stopklatka, one of Poland’s most popular film websites.
