Selection is complete
The 61st Berlin Film Festival has now announced all its titles in Competition. With the eight films confirmed before the end-of-year holidays (see news), the total now stands at 22. Sixteen of these films will vie for the Golden Bear, the others will screen out of competition.
Among the ten features in competition, added to the six previously announced candidates (including five European co-productions), there are six European (co-)productions, including Hungarian director Béla Tarr’s latest film, The Turin Horse, and Michel Ocelot’s French 3D animated title Tales of the Night.
The four new selections out of competition all represent Europe. They include the new film by Austrian director Wolfgang Murnberger, My Best Enemy; Unknown, by Jaume Collet-Serra starring Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger and Bruno Ganz; and Service Entrance by Philippe Le Guay, starring Fabrice Lucchini, Sandrine Kiberlain and Carmen Maura.
Pride of place will go to Iranian cinema, with a film in competition and the presentation of Jafar Panahi’s Offside (awarded at Berlin in 2006) in an extra programme. The other special screening in this extra programme will be Werner Herzog’s US 3D documentary Cave Of Forgotten Dreams.
