BERLINALE 2011 Market

38 projects in search of co-producers

by

As part of the European Film Market, the 8th Berlinale Co-production Market will run from February 13-15 during the festival.

A total of 38 projects from 25 countries will be presented by their producers and creators to 450 co-producers and financial partners at over a thousand face-to-face meetings. These are complemented by group meetings, such as the new Company Matching, which will spotlight three major production companies with extensive international networks they are seeking to expand (the chosen companies will be announced at the end of the month) and the sixth edition of "Breakfast & Books".

These 38 projects include the 24 in the official selection (chosen from among 352 submissions with budgets of between €1-12m and 30% of their financing already secured). Recognisable names include Hungary’s Kornél Mundruczó (who is presenting The Flying Man), Uberto Pasolini, Urszula Antoniak (the director of Nothing Personal [+see also:

Three projects have been selected in collaboration with Rotterdam’s CineMart as part of the Rotterdam-Berlinale Express, and 11 others, helmed by debut directors, have been chosen from among 270 submissions for the Talent Project Market.

The success of the Co-production Market is now well-established: 40% of projects presented in the past (i.e. over 100 films) have been successfully completed, two of which, Intimate Grammar and The Bad Intentions, are in this year’s festival line-up.
