FESTIVALS France

myFrenchFilmFestival so far attracts 200,000 web visitors

Launched on January 14, the first Internet-based film festival, myFrenchFilmFestival, is entering its final phase before it officially ends on January 29 (although the films can be viewed up to ten days after the event’s close). This internationally ground-breaking project – organised by Unifrance (see interview with Régine Hatchondo and Antoine de Clermont-Tonnerre), the agency that promotes French cinema abroad – has seen very promising results in its first seven days.

From January 14-20, 200,000 Internet users from 167 countries visited the festival’s website for over 800,000 page views. Brazil, Russia and Mexico (three territories where viewing is free thanks to the coverage of technical costs and payment to rights-holders) are among the top five countries with the most site visits, alongside the United States (€1.99 per film or €13.99 pack for all films) and France (€3.99 per viewing and €27.99 for pack). Next in line are the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

myFrenchFilmFestival has also been a resounding media success, giving rise to articles in the international press, from the New York Times to South China Morning Post, as well as Italy’s La Repubblica ("A real revolution in the world of film festivals"), Brazil’s O Globo, South Korea’s Korea Herald, Argentina’s La Nacion, Algeria’s El Watan, Spain’s El Pais and the Wall Street Journal ("An unprecedented interaction with audiences").
