The film has a good chance to snag the coveted statuette, having just won a Golden Globe in the same category less than two weeks ago. Just like After the Wedding, the story of In a Better World was co-developed with Anders Thomas Jensen, who then wrote the script.
Bier described the film to Cineuropa: “It focuses on Mikael Persbrandt’s character, an idealistic doctor working on a humanitarian mission somewhere in a refugee camp in Africa. He wants to do the right thing but is being tested by events and we see how far this can go.”
In a Better World was the third biggest Danish success hit of 2010 at home with over 415,000 admissions. The film has been released in Scandinavia and will open throughout the rest of the world over the next six months, including in Korea, Hong Kong, Brazil, Germany and France.
