FESTIVALS France

Paris Cinéma is launched

by

On 6 February the Municipality of Paris announced the creation of the Paris Cinéma festival, the first edition of which is run from 2-13 July 2003.
Having cut all funding for the Festival of Parigi, the Ville Lumière’s Town Hall created this new event to promote cinemagoing during the summer months.
Presided over by Franco-Greek film director Constantin Costa-Gavras, and under the artistic direction of Marie-Pierre Macia (formerly with Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes, “Paris Cinéma” will incorporate the “International Film Meetings” that up until now always took place in November.
The event will feature numerous premieres, tributes, retrospectives and round-table discussions about key issues like funding European cinema and how best to circulate medium-length and short productions, and film editing.
The festival will organise films of every genre and format and promises to be a rich event especially the wonderful “Paris-by-night” outdoor screenings.
