DISTRIBUTION Germany

Three new members join AG Verleih

by

Distribution companies Fantasia Film, Filmlichter and Die Filmagentinnen have joined the Independent Film Distributors’ Association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der unabhängigen Filmverleiher, or AG Filmverleih).

AG Filmverleih was created in 1999 when an alliance was formed between 20 distribution companies of different profiles and sizes, including Zorro Films, Arsenal Filmverleih, Pandora Films and Neue Visionen, among others. It set itself up as a unifying force for independent distributors, in contrast to the Majors, and an interlocutor and pressure group to defend their interests before the German, European and international institutions.

Its aim is to “preserve, circulate and renew the range of films on offer in theatres”. For this reason, it is committed to “the improvement of economic and cultural conditions for the distribution of works from independent producers, young directors, documentaries, shorts and high-quality films from all countries”.

Fantasia Film is specialised in distributing 3D and large-format digital films on German-speaking territories. Since 2006, the company has also been active in the exhibition sector through the Cinecitta cinema in Nuremberg, which is part of the Cinemagnum network. For its part, Berlin-based Die Filmagentienen offers marketing and distribution management services to third parties.

With a somewhat broader portfolio of services, Cologne-based Filmlichter does similar work to the latter, ranging from online promotion to sponsor searches, distribution strategy design and advertising and press campaigns.
