Philipp Stölzl’s biopic Goethe! [+see also:

film profile], about the early years of Germany’s most famous literary genius and rebel, was sold at the Berlinale by Beta Cinema to a handful of territories, including Music Box in the US.

Other territories that picked up the film are Japan (Gaga), Scandinavia (Atlantic Film AB), the Czech Republic and Slovakia (Hollywood C.E.), Greece (Strada Film) and South Korea (Daisy Entertainment).

Florian Cossen’s feature-film debut The Day I Was Born, winner of a FIPRESCI Award and Audience award in Montreal was sold to France (Metropolitan), Canada (Mongrel Media) and Israel (Orlando). The film about a young German woman discovering a long-kept family secret dating back to the Argentinean military dictatorship, was launched in German cinemas this week.

Joe Baier’s touching father-son portrait The End is My Beginning [+see also:

film profile], starring Bruno Ganz and Elio Germano, was sold to Italy (Fandango) and Spain (Isaan Entertainment/Karma). The film is screening in Berlin in the new German Cinema - LOLA@BERLINALE section.

Another German film is attracting a lot of attention from buyers: Ralf Huettner’s Vincent Wants to Sea, which has sold to the US (Corinth Films) as well as to Australia/New Zealand (Umbrella Entertainment). Finally, Philipp Kadelbach’s English-language drama Hindenburg, starring Stacy Keach and Greta Scacchi was sold to the U.K. (Metrodome), Australia / New Zealand (Umbrella Entertainment), the Benelux (Dutch Film Works) and Scandinavia (Atlantic Film).
