AWARDS UK

BAFTA crowns The King’s Speech

by

It was a near sweep for Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech at the BAFTAs. The film won seven awards - Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Original Screenplay (David Seidler) and Original Music (Alexandre Desplat), as well as a trio of performance awards for Geoffrey Rush (Supporting Actor), Helena Bonham Carter (Supporting Actress) and Colin Firth, who wins the Leading Actor BAFTA for the second year running.

Tanya Seghatchian, head of the UK Film Council’s Film Fund, said, “Tonight's result is a triumph for the creators, cast and everyone involved with The King’s Speech. The recipient of 12 Oscar nominations, the highest grossing British independent film of all time in the UK and now the winner of a host of BAFTAs - The King’s Speech represents a great validation for the UK film industry as a whole and an amazing legacy for the UK Film Council.”
