A Slovenian Bear

After giving short films a distinct section and competition, the 53rd Berlinale presented the best of them with their very own Bear awards. (A)Torzija, a Slovenian production directed by Stefan Arsenijevic about the recent conflict in Yugoslavia took home the Golden Bear while Silver Bears went to En Ausencia (In Absentia) by Lucía Cedrón (Argentina) about the South American dictatorship, and Ischov Tramwai (Ukraine) by Stepan Koval.
According to German film director, Andreas Dresen, the Berlinale audience really appreciated this new section. Dresen's fellow jurors are Sweden’s Thom Palmen, the head of the Umeå International Film Festival Audience and the chairman of the European Coordination of Film Festivals (ECFF) and France’s Phyllis Mollet of the International Film Producers' Federation - (FIAPF)
