Film Four Lab looses its head
by Annika Pham
Robin Gutch, Head of Channel 4’s experimental low-budget Film Four Lab has just resigned from the post he held for four years. Gutch, who will move into the independent production sector, was responsible for backing innovative material in short-films, experimental TV productions and international co-productions at the Film Four Lab and the projects he greenlit include the DV film Daybreak directed by Bernard Rudden and starring French actor Jean-Philippe Ecoffey.
Film Four Lab survived the cut-backs at the broadcaster’s feature film operations, and is now part of Channel 4’s new film division headed by Tessa Ross. Ross’s own previous position as Head of Drama for Channel 4, has just been filled with the appointment of John Yorke, currently Head of Drama Series for the BBC.
