"The Moro Affair"

- Marco Bellocchio begins filming an introspective analysis of the 1978 kidnapping and murder of the politician. Starring Luigi Lo Cascio and Maya Sansa

The 1978 kidnap and subsequent murder of Italian politician, Aldo Moro, is one of the most mysterious chapters of recent Italian history. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that two Italian filmmakers like Renzo Martinelli and Marco Bellocchio decided to turn the story into a film. Martinelli’s Piazza delle Cinque Lune is very much a thriller while Bellocchio, as is his bent, decided to examine the psychoanalytical aspects of Moro’s tragic destiny and especially the Christian Democratic leader’s relationship with his kidnappers and executioners.
Bellocchio’s film, Buongiorno di notte ( taken from a poem by Emily Dickenson) just went into production and is based on Leonardo Sciascia’s book "L’affaire Moro".
"Despite appearances this film is an analysis of the true identity of Aldo Moro the man and not the story of the Christian Democrat who was murdered by the Red Brigades, and all the journalistic scoops and revelations that followed. It is an intimate story about the almost familial relationship that Moro established with his kidnappers. "
Luigi Lo Cascio (The Hundred Steps and Luce dei miei occhi [+see also:
