by

Seventy-five years on stage and before the camera were more than enough to turn her into one of the best-known faces in Spanish theatre, cinema and television. On Monday, April 25, María Isbert died at the age of 94 in the La Mancha town of Villarrobledo.

Although her real passion was theatre, Isbert, a daughter and mother of actors, appeared in over 250 features and worked with directors including Luis Buñuel, Luis García Berlanga and Fernando Palacios.

Isbert, one of Spain’s greatest comic actresses, was made an Honorary Member of the Spanish Film Academy and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Spanish Actors Union, among many other prizes.
